In the middle of the square, there is a monument to Nicolaus Copernicus, erected in 1972. It commemorates the speech of the famous astronomer
at one of the sessions of the provincial diet of Royal Prussia given on March 21, 1522, when Copernicus presented his famous Treatise on Money.
